South Shore Prepares for Construction Start

This is an exciting time at McLean as final site work at South Shore is nearly complete, and our first homes are about to begin construction. Utilities have been installed, roads paved and lots are now being platted. Soon, we will begin installation of an elaborate landscaping and trail plan along Armstrong Road and at our two South Shore entrances.

Interest from brokers and prospective homebuyers continues to be strong for South Shore, McLean’s flagship neighborhood of custom and estate homes along five miles of unspoiled Lake Wylie shoreline. Picturesque lake views, ponds and countryside are among the community’s most prominent attributes. Distinctive homes and amenities will complement the scenic landscape. Homesites are from 1/2-acre to more than an acre.

Look for more details to be announced on our estate home offerings by Peachtree Residential and John Wieland Homes & Neighborhoods. Their model homes are expected to be completed by late Spring.

Our custom builders are in the process of working with a number of prospects on home plans for construction at South Shore.  Custom home builders include Andrew Roby Signature Homes, Arthur Rutenberg Homes, Fairwood Construction, J. Barwick Construction, McSpadden Custom Homes and New Old Custom Homes.

Legacy of Holiday Traditions

964b2b5b-72b7-41da-818b-a43d0a80ae45In addition to its natural beauty, the land of McLean has a rich historical legacy related to the holiday season. Daniel Stowe, the textile magnate whose property holdings eventually became part of the development tract, was known for throwing festive Christmas parties at his homes in Belmont and on the water. “Christmas at Dan’s is like going to a fairyland! It is absolutely enchanting,” Catherine Ann Carstarphen, Stowe’s niece, told his biographer. “From the moment you walk through the door, the decorations and music are beautiful.” Stowe’s illustrated autobiography titled “By Waters of the South Fork” contains many pictures of family members from these lavish holiday affairs. It chronicles the life and times of this colorful local figure who was a great businessman, philanthropist and civic leader, and also includes photos and historical facts about the area. The book is available in the gift shop of the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.
