You can help make Lake Wylie history on Aug. 24 by joining the first ever Bon Temps Paddle Battle on Wylie. Even paddle-board newbies can join in the fun, says organizer Heidi Schmidt of Anchored Soul paddle-boarding company. Events range from a fun race to a 7-mile competition. McLean’s next-door neighbor celebrates its 20th anniversary with an awe-inspiring, larger-than-life botanical glass exhibit, Grandiflora: Gamrath Glass at the Garden.

Guests will be mesmerized by hundreds of pieces of glass making up dozens of vibrant sculptures by Seattle-based artist Jason Gamrath. The show runs through Sept. 29, with daytime and evening viewings. Details
